Fremantle College is a $34m State Government high school project to accommodate the amalgamation of Hamilton SHS with South Fremantle SHS on the existing South Fremantle school site in Beaconsfield.
The project included the construction of a significant new building addressing a large grassed promenade at the existing school entry which accommodates a new Performing Arts and Science Centre, 16 General Learning Classrooms and Student Services. Additionally, a major refurbishment of the 50 year old SFSHS buildings was completed to contemporise the existing teaching and learning environments. This refurbishment work was completed over a series of stages on an occupied school site, requiring careful master-planning and sequencing of works to minimise risk and disruption.
The new Fremantle College caters for 1200 students in Years 7 to 12 and was opened at the start of the 2018 school year. The project was designed and delivered by JCY Architects with SITE Architecture Studio engaged to complete the remaining stages of the refurbishment works and the Contract Administration. SITE Associate Will Thomson reprised his role as Project Architect after the closure of JCY Architects. The facility opened at the start of the 2018 school year.
The project has successfully defined a new school identity and created a contemporary learning environment across the new and old facilities, to allow the staff to deliver cutting edge teaching styles.
